Man accused of posing as doctor pleads not guilty

A 66-year-old San Francisco man accused of fraudulently posing as a dermatologist pleaded not guilty Wednesday in San Francisco Superior Court to 51 felony counts. Prosecutors have accused Timothy Syed Andersson, also known as "Dr. Syed," of misrepresenting himself as a medical doctor and defrauding dozens of patients out of about $75,000. He is charged with 27 counts of practicing medicine without a license, 23 counts of grand theft by deception and one count of perjury. Read More

Dozens of victims — including eight children as young as 2 years old — were treated with painful procedures and bogus creams by a San Francisco man posing as a licensed medical doctor, District Attorney Kamala Harris said Wednesday. Timothy Syed Andersson, known as “Dr. Syed” to his patients, allegedly conned 38 people out of at least $75,000 by masquerading as a dermatologist and treating them out of his home near Lake Merced, Harris said. Prosecutors have charged a San Francisco man for allegedly defrauding nearly 20 members of the city's Asian community who were applying for the city's low-income housing program. Housing adviser faces 41 counts in bribery fraud case

Prosecutors are charging an outreach coordinator for allegedly soliciting bribes of more than $1,000 from at least 19 people to help find low-income housing. Kan Yin Chow, 51, was taken to County Jail on Wednesday on 41 charges, according to Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Susan Fahey.Chow was responsible for reaching out to members of the Chinese community and helping them apply for below market rate homes offered by the Redevelopment Agency.
