SFMTA increasing fees, fines

A series of parking fee and fine increases will take effect today, including a $20 hike for The City’s residential parking permits. The residential parking permits, available to San Francisco residents in neighborhoods without strong commercial presences, will increase from $76 to $96, a move that was approved in February by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. The $20 increase means that since 2008, the cost has gone up by 60 percent, from $60 to $96. Read More

Parking at Ferry Plaza nixed

Merchants in the Ferry Building Marketplace fear their businesses will suffer after plans were dumped to add parking spaces to the adjacent plaza. As The Examiner reported in December, the Port of San Francisco planned to add 65 spaces to the Ferry Plaza for six years to raise funds for an $879,000 plaza improvement project. But the proposal was dumped following strong community opposition to use of the site for parking, according to Port waterfront planner Jonathan Stern. Read More

Port's parking leases fall under committee vote

On Wednesday, District 11 Supervisor John Avalos will vote, along with other members of the Budget and Finance Committee, on whether to allow the Port Commission to lease surface parking space on the northern waterfront to a private company for three years. In March, the Port began searching for companies interested in obtaining leases. It received 38 bids, and the Port is expected to earn $5 million. Read More

Free short-term downtown parking for carpoolers

Shoppers and others who carpool to eight downtown parking garages in San Francisco will get free short-term parking, starting today until Dec. 27. Under the Holiday Carpool Parking program, the city-owned garages are offering one hour free parking from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. if there are three occupants in the vehicle and two hours free parking with four or more occupants.
