Woman struck by Muni bus dies from her injuries

A woman who was struck and killed by a San Francisco Muni bus near Lake Merced on Saturday has been identified by the medical examiner's office as 72-year-old Eileen Barrett. Barrett, a Daly City resident, was struck by an outbound 18-46th Avenue bus at about 4:30 p.m. at Lake Merced Boulevard and John Muir Drive, Muni spokesman Paul Rose said. She was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, but it was initially thought she would survive, Rose said. Read More

Deal reached to lease out North Beach theater for Central Subway work

A deal has been reached to bring up Muni’s Central Subway machinery at an abandoned theater in North Beach. The transit agency, along with Board of Supervisors President David Chiu and the Mayor’s Office, had been locked in talks to lease out the Pagoda Palace as a way to store equipment and extract tunnel-boring machines needed for the 1.7-mile transit extension project. A Powell-Hyde cable car that stopped abruptly at Powell and Washington streets Wednesday morning injured seven people and delayed a cruise ship scheduled to set sail for Hawaii. The cable car was traveling toward downtown about 10:20 a.m. with about 40 people aboard when it apparently hit a bolt in the tracks, causing the incident, Muni spokesman Paul Rose said.
