OAKLAND — His face full of dirt and his body atop the third base bag, Eric Sogard was more concerned with being safe than watching the throw from Baltimore's Manny Machado sail into left field.
For a few moments, it even looked as if Sogard would stay put on the ground.
Sogard eventually got to his feet and scrambled home, making a headfirst dive with the winning run in the 10th inning that lifted the Oakland Athletics over the Orioles 9-8 Sunday.

OAKLAND — Jed Lowrie drove in four runs, Tommy Milone won his third straight start and the Oakland Athletics beat the Houston Astros 11-2 on Monday night.
Nate Freiman added a three-run homer and Brandon Moss had three RBIs for the A's. Oakland also benefited from eight walks — four in the first inning by Houston starter Erik Bedard.

Brett Anderson outdueled fellow postseason first-timer Anibal Sanchez and the upstart A’s were stellar on defense all over the diamond, avoiding another playoff sweep by Detroit by beating the Tigers 2-0 Tuesday in their AL Division Series at the Oakland Coliseum.
The A’s cut their deficit in the best-of-five matchup to 2-1.

Justin Verlander threw a fastball that caught a bit too much of the plate, allowing Oakland's Coco Crisp to lead off the game with a stunning home run.For the first few innings, Verlander labored, his pitch count rising while his control deserted him. But the Athletics could manage only that one run, missing their best chance of the night to break through against Detroit's hard-throwing ace.

CLEVELAND — For a team leading the wild-card race, the A’s couldn’t have hand-picked a better opponent to play in the four-game series that ended Thursday.
