San Francisco continues to score low marks for traffic congestion

Once again, San Francisco ranks as one of the most congested metropolitan areas in the nation, with local commuters losing 61 hours each year stuck in traffic. At 67 hours of lost productivity, commuters in the Washington, D.C., metro area were the only motorists in the country who suffered more than San Francisco drivers last year, according to the Texas Transportation Institute, which produces annual congestion reports. Update: Southbound Highway 101 now open after accident results from shooting

UPDATE: All lanes have reopened on southbound U.S. Highway 101 following a police investigation and accident just north of Holly Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. A crash involving an apparent shooting victim was reported around 3:30 p.m. near Holly Street, CHP officer James Evans said. The vehicle was seen swerving before it veered off the roadway, Evans said. Read More

A winter storm blasted the Pacific Northwest Wednesday, dumping near-record snow in some areas, hammering parts of Oregon with winds as high as 110 mph and bringing much of the region to a standstill. Fourth Street traffic plan to throw curveball at Giants fans

Drivers trying to escape after a Giants game at AT&T Park next season may face street closures that are aimed at reducing bottlenecks and speeding up Muni. While the whole neighborhood is swamped with vehicles after AT&T Park events, northbound Fourth Street is particularly problematic because there is only one lane for both automobiles and Muni’s T-Third Street line, said Muni spokesman Paul Rose. Man taken to hospital after early morning Bay Bridge crash

A man was taken to a hospital after a crash on the Bay Bridge this morning that involved an AC Transit bus and several other vehicles, California Highway Patrol spokesman Tony Tam said.The collision, reported just after 6 a.m., blocked two lanes on westbound Interstate Highway 80 on the Bay Bridge’s eastern span.A 28-year-old Vallejo man driving a Chevrolet Avalanche was transported to Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center, but Tam did not know his condition.
