Car share services such as City CarShare and Zipcar could be coming closer to the curb, but it will come at the cost of precious street parking. Currently, customers pick up their shared cars in private lots such as gas stations, garages and apartment complexes. UPDATE: Crash cleared, lanes reopen on Golden Gate Bridge

All lanes on the Golden Gate Bridge have reopened following a multi-vehicle collision, according to the California Highway Patrol. Southbound lanes were blocked for about 45 minutes by the crash, which was reported at 3:27 p.m. Initial reports indicate the accident, which involved at least three vehicles, was a head-on collision, CHP Sgt. Strong gusts in San Francisco break office building window, forcing street closure

Firefighters closed off a San Francisco street for about half an hour this afternoon after strong winds blew out a window of the SF Mart building and sent glass raining down onto the pavement below, a fire department battalion chief said. Ninth Street was closed at about 3 p.m. between Mission and Market streets while a handful of firefighters cleaned up the glass with janitor-style brooms and shovels, battalion chief Charles Krane said. Gas drifted across a major highway in San Mateo County, prompting the California Highway Patrol to close the roadway during rush hour traffic Monday.Both directions of Highway 92 were closed at Highway 35 for nearly an hour, according to the CHP. In Tuesday’s San Francisco Examiner, Jonathan Last’s op-ed about induced traffic demand begins with a clear description of how a new lane or widened sector of freeway can lead to more regional traffic by causing more people to drive more often. For example, if my elderly aunt lives 40 miles away via a congested freeway I might visit her twice a year.
