Illness prompts Mo. district to cancel classes

An outbreak of flu-like symptoms has prompted a suburban Kansas City school district to cancel classes in all 18 of its schools Monday. Animal advocates are warning Arizona dog owners about an often fatal disease that's on the rise this year. The Arizona Humane Society has issued a health alert about distemper. Distemper is a highly contagious disease that is shed in secretions of infected animals and spread by breathing. The virus infects the lymph nodes and spreads to the blood and cell line of the respiratory, gastrointestinal and center nervous systems. Read More

Ohio's governor is launching a campaign aimed at reducing prescription drug abuse by highlighting the stories of those who have been impacted by addictions. Gov. 2 whooping cough cases found at Philly-area school

Authorities in suburban Philadelphia say two high school students have been diagnosed with the highly contagious infection known as whooping cough. Chester County health officials say Great Valley High School students who have not been vaccinated must stay out of school until three weeks after the last confirmed case.
