Police are investigating whether the same person committed two attempted bank robberies in the downtown area Friday.
The first robbery attempt was reported about 1:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of Market Street, and the second happened about 20 minutes later in the 100 block of Pine Street.

A man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in the Mission district Monday after he collided head-on with a police cruiser, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
The 22-year-old suspect was driving at a high rate of speed westbound on 19th Street about 12:48 a.m. when he struck the cruiser near Mission Street.
The officer was hospitalized but quickly released with injuries not considered life-threatening, Esparza said.

A suspected phony parking lot attendant is now parked in a real jail cell, police said Wednesday.
George Gerald Anderson, 50, of San Francisco, was arrested last weekend after reportedly claiming to be a parking lot attendant and charging a tourist to park in a lot at Bay and Kearny streets. It was not Anderson’s first run-in with the law, police said, or his first time impersonating a parking lot attendant.

A man was shot in the leg in the Western Addition on Monday, police said.
The 19-year-old victim was in the 1300 block of Ellis Street when the shooting happened about 6:25 p.m. No suspects have been identified.
The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

A 66-year-old man was punched in the face and robbed of his food-stamp card in the Mission district Monday, police said.
The victim was sitting on a bench around 16th and Mission streets about 10:30 p.m. when a woman in her 30s tried to take his card from him, cops said. A struggle ensued and a man in his 30s jumped in and punched the victim in the face.
The heartless crooks fled with the victim’s food-stamp card. No arrests have been made.

A man was arrested on suspicion of copper theft in South of Market on Saturday, police said Tuesday.
Michael David O’Keefe, 55, was apprehended about 5:30 a.m. after he was seen running from an open PG&E manhole in the 1600 block of Folsom Street, police said. He was reportedly found with high-voltage copper wires estimated to be worth about $90. Police also detained a second suspect.
