Malkin scores winner as Penguins nip Capitals 4-3

Evgeni Malkin pounded home a rebound 1:31 into overtime to lift the streaking Pittsburgh Penguins to a 4-3 victory over the Washington Capitals on Sunday. Malkin, the NHL's leading scorer, banged a long carom off the end boards past Washington's Michal Neuvirth for his 26th goal of the season. Marian Gaborik scored twice, the second on a third-try backhander with 3.6 seconds left in overtime, and the New York Rangers beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Saturday in a matchup of the top two teams in the Eastern Conference. Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell scored in a 35-second span in a four-goal third period that carried the Boston Bruins to a 4-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night. Defenseman Andrew Ference tied it at 3:01 of the period and Horton and Campbell put the Bruins ahead for good as they beat New Jersey for the third time in three games this season. Ryan O'Reilly scored 3:55 into overtime, as his shot trickled through the legs of Florida goalie Jose Theodore, and the Colorado Avalanche rallied for a 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night. Paul Stastny tied it late in regulation, and Peter Mueller scored twice — his first goals since April 2010. Shane Doan scored at the buzzer for the first hat trick of his 16-year NHL career, leading the Phoenix Coyotes to a 5-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday night. Doan, in his 1,161st game, fired a slap shot past goalie Evgeni Nabokov just before the buzzer sounded. The 35-year-old team captain had been, along with Scott Mellanby, the only players in league history with 300 goals but no hat tricks. Read More

Mike Blunden and Max Pacioretty scored in the second period, Carey Price made 23 saves, and the Montreal Canadiens beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 on Saturday night. Erik Cole scored his 17th goal of the season on the power play with 17 seconds remaining to seal the Canadiens' second straight win. Lupul helps Maple Leafs beat Red Wings 4-3

Joffrey Lupul scored at 7:10 of the third period to help the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 after blowing a three-goal lead Saturday night. With the game looking to have slipped out of Toronto's control, Lupul grabbed a rare turnover from Henrik Zetterberg behind the net and lifted a shot over goalie Jimmy Howard for his 19th goal.
