Hundreds of women, joined by politicians and men, have protested in Malawi's commercial capital against thugs who have been stripping women of their pants and miniskirts.
Most of the women and girls who turned out for Friday's protest wore pants or miniskirts. A recording of Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry" got a loud cheer when it was played during the protest.

Angry customers and gangs of scalpers threw eggs at Apple Inc.'s Beijing store Friday after the iPhone 4S launch there was canceled due to concerns over the crowd's size.
Apple reacted to the outburst by postponing iPhone 4S sales in its mainland China stores to protect customers and employees. The phone still will be sold online and through its local carrier.

North Korea is welcoming the New Year with a message saying the army, ruling party and people will become "human shields" to defend Kim Jong Il's son and successor "unto death."
The North also said Sunday in its annual New Year's message that the country must "launch an all-out drive" to achieve prosperity. This year marks the centennial of the birth of new leader Kim Jong Un's grandfather, the revered national founder Kim Il Sung.
