Hydrant gushes after SUV slips, slides away

A driver knocked over a fire hydrant in South of Market on Tuesday, then fled the scene, a nearby witness said. The crash happened on Third Street between Howard and Folsom streets about 9:30 a.m., said Charlene Evans, who works in the area and reported the watery aftermath to The San Francisco Examiner. Man killed by hit-and-run driver near Sacramento

Investigators are seeking the public's help after a 21-year-old San Francisco Bay area man was killed by a hit-and-run driver on a highway outside of Sacramento early Saturday. The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/wUhCbm ) the 21-year-old man was hit as he walked on Highway 113 in Woodland around 3:50 a.m. The name of the man was not released, but the newspaper says he was a resident of Foster City. Plea deal likely in fatal Pacifica hit-and-run

A San Bruno man who returned to the scene of a fatal crash in Pacifica on advice from his insurance company is “devastated” about the accident and wants to make amends, his attorney said Friday. Leopoldo Tobilla, 58, of San Bruno is charged with a felony hit-and-run and a misdemeanor DUI in connection with the horrific late-night accident on state Route 35. Read More

A crash that killed an elderly World War II veteran at an Excelsior district intersection on Veteran’s Day in 2009 has resulted in a four-year prison sentence for the driver who fled the scene.Arthur Clark Jr., 22, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for the Nov. 11, 2009, crash that killed 84-year-old Isaac Hudson, attorneys said. Two vehicles flee after striking apparent suicide victim in Redwood City

Police are seeking two vehicles suspected of fleeing after striking a man who apparently laid down on a street in Redwood City to commit suicide on Thursday night.Officers responded at 9:04 p.m. to a report of an accident between a vehicle and pedestrian in the 1800 block of El Camino Real.They arrived to find a man suffering from serious injuries in the roadway.
