A driver knocked over a fire hydrant in South of Market on Tuesday, then fled the scene, a nearby witness said. The crash happened on Third Street between Howard and Folsom streets about 9:30 a.m., said Charlene Evans, who works in the area and reported the watery aftermath to The San Francisco Examiner.
