Charlie Weis could have spent the rest of his career basking in the Florida sun, then ambled off into retirement with a bunch of Super Bowl rings and a reputation burnished over two decades as one of football's great offensive minds.
Instead, he ambled to a lectern on a crisp December day, using a cane to help him along as he awaited hip replacement surgery. He smiled and grimaced, sometimes simultaneously.

Former Fresno State coach Pat Hill is the Atlanta Falcons' new offensive line coach.
Hill replaces Paul Boudreau, who was fired after the season.
Hill was 112-80 with 11 bowl appearances in 15 seasons at Fresno State. He was the offensive line and tight ends coach for the Cleveland Browns from 1992-95 and Baltimore Ravens in 1996.

Brittney Griner has Baylor off to the best start in school history.
On both the offensive and defensive ends, Griner has been making a huge impact all season long.
The 6-foot-8 phenom scored 28 points and had five blocks, moving into second place on the NCAA career list, to help No. 1 Baylor's 74-46 rout of Kansas on Saturday night.

Despite making his first trip to Hawaii, it's been a bittersweet and exhausting week for Seattle Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson.
Robinson arrived in the islands Tuesday only to fly out after the next day's Pro Bowl practice to speak at the memorial services of his college coach, Joe Paterno. He then returned to Honolulu on Friday night on Nike founder and CEO Phil Knight's jet.

Interim coach Kyle Flood interviewed for the head coaching job to replace Greg Schiano at Rutgers.
Schiano stepped down Thursday to take over the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Flood said that none of the 17 high school players who committed to Rutgers have changed their mind before national signing day.

Tony Gonzalez, Ray Lewis and Champ Bailey know what to expect. The new faces at the Pro Bowl aren't so sure, and are curious how intense they should play in Sunday's all-star game.

A Chicago-area product, Prater redshirted as a freshman and had just one catch for 6 yards last year in an injury-plagued season.

Isaiah Pead took a stutter step forward, then raced to the left sideline and traveled 60 yards up the field before finally getting tripped up by a leg tackle.
The former Cincinnati running back followed that nifty punt return with a 38-yarder a couple of minutes later, late in the first half, to play a starring role Saturday in the North's 23-13 victory over the South in the Senior Bowl.
