Xavier center Kenny Frease used a white cloth to soak up the blood streaming from a gash below his eye. Coaches from both teams bear-hugged their players and tried to yank them away from the bedlam.
The latest crosstown shootout got out of control Saturday and ended in bedlam, a few seconds early. The repercussions haven't even started.

Patric Young scored a career-high 25 points, Erving Walker made some huge free throws down the stretch, and No. 12 Florida rallied to beat Arizona 78-72 in overtime Wednesday night.
Walker finished with 14 points, including seven in the extra frame. He overcame a poor shooting night from the field (3 of 16) and a miserable performance from 3-point range (1 of 9).

LSU did its part to make sure both the Tigers and Alabama get into the BCS national title game.
Houston, however, botched its chance to become this year's BCS buster.
The top-ranked Tigers locked up a spot in the championship on Jan. 9 in New Orleans with a 42-10 victory against No. 12 Georgia in the Southeastern Conference title game on Saturday.

After hanging half a hundred points on their crosstown rivals, Matt Barkley and his Southern California teammates returned to the Coliseum locker room to find T-shirts on their chairs proclaiming the Trojans to be the Pac-12 South champions.
Sanctions will keep USC out of the conference title game. These resilient Trojans still believed they proved which team should be on a flight from Los Angeles to Eugene, Ore., next week.

LaMichael James ran for 142 yards before leaving with what appeared to be a left elbow injury, and No. 9 Oregon beat Oregon State 49-21 Saturday to clinch the Pac-12 North and a spot in the conference's first championship game.
The Ducks (10-2, 8-1 Pac-12) will host UCLA on Friday night with a chance to win their third straight conference title and a spot in the Rose Bowl.

The Crimson Tide (10-1) didn't win many style points in giving up a season-high 21 points, but the team's biggest national title boost came the previous night when No. 2 Oklahoma State fell 37-31 at Iowa State in two overtimes.
