East Palo Alto police chief declares ‘crime emergency’

Following the recent violence in East Palo Alto, culminating in Sunday’s killing of a teenager, police Chief Ronald Davis is calling a “crime  emergency” for the department, which took effect Tuesday. Declaring a “crime emergency” allows the department to cancel days off and make assignment changes as needed. Victim fatally shot this afternoon in Bayview

Police are investigating a fatal shooting in San Francisco's Bayview District this afternoon. Officers responded at 3:43 p.m. to reports that a male victim had been shot in the 1100 block of Hudson Avenue, Officer Carlos Manfredi said. The officers performed CPR on the victim until medics arrived and transported him to San Francisco General Hospital. However, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, Manfredi said. Police ask for help in finding suspect in Pacifica skateboard assault

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect who beat and seriously injured a driver after a car crash in Pacifica last month. Police said officers responded to reports of the assault at the Fairmont Shopping Center, off of Hickey Boulevard, around 11:55 p.m. on April 27. The victim and suspect had been involved in a car crash on southbound state Highway 35 near Hickey Boulevard prior to the assault, according to police. Read More

Visitacion Valley stabber sought

Police said they are searching for a woman who stabbed her roommate about 4:15 a.m. Sunday in the first block of Towerside Avenue in Visitacion Valley. When officers arrived, they reportedly found a woman suffering from a stab wound. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, according to police. The suspect, who’s also a woman and the victim’s roommate, fled the scene and remained at large Sunday, police said. Read More

6 people shot in East Palo Alto

Six people were shot and injured about 2:45 p.m. Sunday near a McDonald’s on University Avenue in East Palo Alto, according to a fire official. Firefighters arriving on the scene reportedly found six people with gunshot wounds, four inside the restaurant and two outside, but it is unclear where they were shot. One person, a man in his 20s, received more serious injuries and was taken to Stanford Medical Center for treatment. Read More

Arrest made in burned girlfriend case

The man suspected of dousing his girlfriend with gasoline over a laundry dispute was arrested late Monday. Officers from the San Francisco Police Department’s Special Investigations Division and the U.S. Marshal’s Service took Dexter Oliver into custody at an Oakland hotel after receiving information as to his whereabouts. Cellphone swipers take a shine to victim’s shoes

A woman was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday morning and left standing barefoot on a sidewalk, police said. The 44-year-old woman was walking in the first block of Pearl Street near Hayes Valley when two men approached with a gun and forced her to hand over her cellphone, wallet and shoes, police said. The two then fled, and no arrests had been made as of Wednesday. Read More

New study says University of San Francisco is not such a dangerous campus

Students at the University of San Francisco may not need to worry that their Panhandle campus is as dangerous as reports have made it out to be, according to a new study looking at criminal data. Earlier this summer, the news website The Daily Beast ranked USF as the third most dangerous campus in the country, citing the number of criminal offenses at the school from 2008-10 based on data submitted to the U.S. Department of Education, as is required by federal law. Crime really doesn’t pay as criminal trio reaps $5

A trio of thugs earned about $1.65 apiece when they stabbed and robbed a man as he left a Tenderloin corner store Tuesday night, police said. The chumps’ change heist occurred near Turk and Jones streets about 11:35 p.m., police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.
