An early-morning passer-by found 39-year-old Warren Foster Jr. bleeding in a driveway on Paul Avenue in the Bayview district around 6:20 a.m. Sunday. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest. Police are investigating whether a second, nonfatal shooting was related.

Within a 24-hour period, San Francisco police officers seized seven guns and seven suspects in four separate incidents. Four of the suspects were youths.
The first incident occurred at 8:49 p.m. July 29 during a traffic stop at Vicente Street and 36th Avenue. During the stop, officers located a loaded assault weapon in the trunk. The driver was 17.

A 74-year-old San Francisco woman was bilked out $6,500 earlier this month by a bogus lottery scam that frequently targets the elderly, law enforcement authorities said.
The woman, a Mission Terrace resident, was contacted by a man who claimed she won $600,000 from a Canadian lottery, despite never entering the contest, said Capt. Dennis O’Leary of the Ingleside Police Station.

A San Francisco flower vendor was the subject of an ugly racial epitaph on Wednesday, the second time in less than two years that his place of business has been targeted.
Unknown perpetrators used feces to scrawl out a racial slur on a wall behind the flower stand run by Guy Clark, who is African-American. Clark has operated the Castro area stand at the corner of 15th and Noe streets for over 27 years. He does not own the property where the feces were smeared.
