San Francisco is drying out after a weekend storm system dumped more than 2 inches of rain on The City, uprooted trees and sent a large hotel sign crashing onto a downtown sidewalk.The system — which brought lightning to the area, high winds and the unusual appearance of a water spout off Ocean Beach on Friday — is expected to be followed up by more rain and high winds throughout the week and into the weekend, according to National Weather Service forecaster Bob Benjamin.

As many as 42,200 PG&E customers were without power Tuesday evening as a storm sweeps through San Francisco, bringing wind gusts of up to 55 mph.Some customers were without out power for hours and no official time to restore power to all those affected was given, according to PG&E spokesman JD Guidi. The outages occurred in two separate incidents.
