Underground blast blows off manhole covers at San Francisco's Pier 3

Two manhole covers at Pier 3 blew off early Sunday morning after Pacific Gas & Electric Co. equipment failed underground, authorities said. The Fire Department was called to the area along the Embarcadero just before 8:30 a.m. Shannon Walsh, a barista at The Plant café at Pier 3, said she saw the incident and called police after the café lost power.
