With March Madness approaching in the next few weeks, those rooting for the local schools won’t have much to cheer about this season.
Cal, Stanford, USF and Santa Clara have all struggled at times, hovering around the .500 mark.
St. Mary’s has the best shot among the local colleges of reaching the NCAA Tournament, but the Bay Area’s most successful hoops team actually resides in San Francisco at 50 Phelan Ave.

After beating up on Fresno City College 52-15 in the Hawaiian Punch Community College Bowl on Nov. 27, City College of San Francisco solidified itself as the best two-year college football team in Northern California.
The Rams have gone 11-0 this season while capturing their school’s 11th Northern California Regional Championship, and are now gunning for the college’s seventh state title and ninth national title.

Entering play this weekend, both the College of San Mateo and City College of San Francisco football teams are at the top of the state rankings, with CCSF at No. 2 and CSM at No. 3.
The Rams are off to a solid 2-0 start after defeating the College of Sequoias 51-7 in their opener, while following that up with a 42-8 victory over Mendocino College.
Sophomore quarterback Steele Jantz tossed three touchdowns in each of the team’s first two games.
