LeBron, Heat crowned NBA champions

Now LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh can have a championship celebration with an actual championship trophy. Pushing to an early 17-point lead and then holding on from there, the Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 121-106 Thursday night at AmericanAirlines Arena, to close out the best-of-seven NBA Finals in Game 5 of the series, sweeping the three consecutive games on their homecourt. Heat move one step closer to NBA title

With one more victory, all the doubts end. For LeBron James. For the Miami Heat. For Pat Riley’s Big Three vision during 2010 NBA free agency. Surging back from an early 17-point deficit, the Heat survived a late James cramp and 43 points from Russell Westbrook for a 104-98 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. Read More

Perfection feels so good

Perfection is virtually unobtainable in any endeavor; even the most pure of moments can be dissected to the point that a blemish, however small, could be found by the most cynical of cynics. Case in point: A friend of mine, who considers baseball an exercise in tedium, scoffed at the notion of Matt Cain’s masterpiece at AT&T Park on Wednesday as a perfect game. “A perfect game,” he spat with a straight face, “would be 27 first-pitch outs or 27 three-pitch strikeouts.” Read More

Heat tie series against Thunder behind James' 32 points

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade proved they were not yet ready to pass the torch to the next generation by leading the Miami Heat to a 100-96 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game Two of the NBA Finals on Thursday. James scored 32 points and Wade added 24 as the veteran-laden Heat rebounded from Tuesday night’s lacklustre 105-94 setback to even the best-of-seven series at 1-1. Read More

The kids were all right, it just took awhile to get their footing. But with Russell Westbrook shaking off a rough start and Kevin Durant stepping up to his scoring-leader legacy, the Oklahoma City Thunder overcame an early 13-point deficit to eventually spring to a 105-94 victory Tuesday night over the Miami Heat at Chesapeake Energy Arena. The victory gives the Thunder a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven NBA Finals that continue Thursday on their home court. Read More

Hibbert leads Pacers past Lakers, 98-96

Andrew Bynum, Roy Hibbert
Roy Hibbert scored eight of his 18 points in the fourth quarter playing with a broken nose, and five of his teammates also scored in double figures to help the Indiana Pacers beat the Los Angeles Lakers 98-96 on Sunday night. Kobe Bryant scored 33 points for the Lakers, but missed what would have been a tying 3-pointer from 30 feet from the top of the key with 3.5 seconds to play and the Pacers clinched it at the free throw line. Lakers' Odom shows up late, leaves camp early

Lakers forward Lamar Odom showed up more than 90 minutes late for Los Angeles' first workout of training camp on Friday, and then left early after a meeting with general manager Mitch Kupchak. Odom apparently is still upset about the Lakers' aborted attempt to trade him in a megadeal for Chris Paul. He arrived and left without practicing or speaking to reporters on what's sure to be an awkward opening day of camp. Read More

LeBron's failures overshadow Mavs' accomplishment

LeBron James
“Not one. Not two. Not three, not four, not five, not six ... not seven. And when I say that, I really believe it.” — LeBron James, July 9, 2010 He could have stopped counting at “not one.” Unless, of course, he was counting missed shots or turnovers in the fourth quarter during the NBA finals.
