A man seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood last May will soon finally be on his way home to Georgia after family, friends and even an ex-San Francisco 49er helped raise enough money to transport him there.

The latest incident of sports-related fan violence connected to a San Francisco team involved a man who does not follow football and was merely cheering along with his friend at an Applebee’s restaurant in Georgia on Saturday, the victim’s devastated mother said Monday.
Chris Middleton, 30, remained in critical condition Monday at a hospital near Atlanta, a hospital spokeswoman said, after being shot following the game.

One San Francisco 49ers fans was critically injured and another wounded Saturday outside a Georgia restaurant by a New Orleans Saints fan who was angered by their cheering for the team, a TV station reported.
