Suicide reported in front of Mission Police Station

A person put a gun to his head and ended his life in front of Mission Police Station as passersby watched in horror Monday morning, police said. The victim, identified only as a white male, committed suicide around 8:30 a.m. at the station at 17th and Valencia streets. He used a high-caliber handgun and shot himself right in front of the station’s front doors. Read More

Caltrain struck and killed a man on the tracks Thursday afternoon in what officials said was a likely suicide, the second such death for the transit agency in as many days. The man was hit by a southbound train near Bellevue Avenue in San Mateo at about 4:30 p.m., according to Caltrain. Man struck, killed by Caltrain in Mountain View on Wednesday night identified

A man who was struck and killed by a Caltrain on Wednesday night in Mountain View has been identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office as Cecil Joseph Bloch.Bloch, 63, was a Mountain View resident and his death appears to have been a suicide, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.Bloch was struck by a southbound train on the tracks south of the San Antonio station at about 6:50 p.m., a Caltrain spokeswoman said. Suicide attack kills Kandahar Police Chief

Kandahar Police Chief Brigadier General Khan Mohammad Mujahid was killed Friday in a suicide attack at his headquarters in the provincial capital. The suicide bomber was disguised as a policeman when he entered the highly secured building, gaining access to Mujahid’s office.  He detonated his suicide vest, hidden in his uniform, which led to numerous critical injuries of other officers in the area, according to reports in Afghanistan. North Carolina man killed by police after hostage situation

WHO: Devon Mitchell WHAT: The 19-year-old man who told hostages and police he had a gun was actually unarmed during a three-hour standoff that ended with officers shooting and killing him outside a North Carolina bank. Mitchell had as many as seven hostages, though most were released during the course of the standoff Thursday. The death on the Caltrain tracks Monday morning in Burlingame is being called an apparent suicide, according to the transit agency.The man, identified as a 39-year-old from San Francisco, was struck by a northbound train near the Oak Grove Avenue pedestrian crossing around 6:20 a.m., the transit agency said. Two Taliban attacks foiled

Afghanistan's intelligence agencies said today that two major Taliban attacks in Kabul have been averted in the past 20 days.  The first was a plot to assassinate the country's  vice president and the second was a plan to set off car bombs at President Hamid Karzai's palace in downtown Kabul.
