The St. Petersburg, Fla., Police Department is threatening to suspend a veteran officer with a clean record because he warned the father of a teenage robbery victim about a dangerous part of town. Officer Thad “Stu” Crisco is under investigation for making “disparaging comments against the city.” St. Petersburg’s crime statistics are the worst in Florida and Crisco’s longtime partner had been the third cop killed on duty in just one month.

Police shot and wounded a 27-year-old man Sunday evening in the Mission District after failing to subdue him with pepper spray and a round from a non-lethal projectile weapon.

A Contra Costa County sheriff's office spokesman identified 49-year-old Felix Sandoval Jr. Sunday as the man who was killed after he fatally shot a 44-year-old woman and a Martinez police sergeant Saturday near a hair salon in Martinez.
Martinez police Sgt. Paul Starzyk and Catalina Torres, 44, were both killed during the incident, as was Sandoval, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.
