The St. Petersburg, Fla., Police Department is threatening to suspend a veteran officer with a clean record because he warned the father of a teenage robbery victim about a dangerous part of town. Police shot and wounded a 27-year-old man Sunday evening in the Mission District after failing to subdue him with pepper spray and a round from a non-lethal projectile weapon.
The unidentified man, who was armed with a knife, is expected to survive, police said Monday.
A Contra Costa County sheriff's office spokesman identified 49-year-old Felix Sandoval Jr. Sunday as the man who was killed after he fatally shot a 44-year-old woman and a Martinez police sergeant Saturday near a hair salon in Martinez.
Martinez police Sgt. Paul Starzyk and Catalina Torres, 44, were both killed during the incident, as was Sandoval, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said. Read More
