Police have arrested a San Francisco woman in a Bernal Heights hit and run that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.
Aliitasi Alapati, 41, was arrested Thursday in connection with a March 28 hit and run collision on Bernal Heights Boulevard near Folsom Street and booked on charges including felony hit and run, driving on the sidewalk, reckless driving and concealing or destroying evidence, according to police.
According to the Bernal Height blog Bernalwood, the 8:22 a.m. collision occurred when a dark-colored Jeep Liberty Sport from the 2005 to 2007 model years was traveling east on Bernal Heights Boulevard before it swerved across the street to hit the woman, who was walking on the footpath on the north side of the road.
Police said they were able to identify the driver and vehicle through evidence including witness statements and a video recording of the incident.
On Thursday evening, investigators conducted searches at homes in the 200 block of Raymond Avenue, the 300 block of Chenery Street and the 300 block of Font St. The suspect vehicle was located and seized at the Raymond Avenue address and Alaptati was arrested at the Font Street address, police said.
