Study will examine changing SF’s budget process

Fresh off leading a rollicking budget process, Supervisor Malia Cohen, who for the first time chaired the Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee, requested Tuesday that Budget Analyst Harvey Rose study changing the traditional budget process in San Francisco.

After the mayor introduces a balanced city budget proposal each year by June, the board then reviews it by making cuts to city departments and reallocating funding to other spending priorities in what is known as the “add-back” process.

Cohen is asking Rose to examine, among other things, “how the legislative and executive branches interact” in other comparable cities.
