Storm knocks down trees, causes Muni delays

Heavy rains and high wind Thursday morning were knocking over trees and causing delays in Muni service throughout the city.

Overhead power went out in the Hayes and Masonic area around 8:45 a.m., slowing down service for the 21 Hayes line. Coaches that can run on battery power will still be able to operate, but four older models are unable to move, reducing service to the area.

On Mission Street, the 14 Mission bus was temporarily rerouted after a tree fell into the street in the block between Fourth and Fifth street at 7 a.m. The block remained closed to other traffic as of 10:30 a.m. but Muni buses were being allowed through.

The F Market line was being turned back at Pier 39 due to obstructions caused by inclement weather.

At 8:40 a.m. high winds also blew a tree branch into the overhead lines at the intersection of Beach and Powell.

Early today at 7:15 a.m., the J Church line was temporarily delayed to allow for the clearing of overhead branches that had been blown down by high winds. The issue was resolved and regular serviced resumed at 8:26 a.m.
