Steve Kerr hopes to get Briante Weber on the floor against Kings

SACRAMENTO — Speaking before the Golden State Warriors’ Saturday night road game with the Sacramento Kings, head coach Steve Kerr said he’s hoping to find the opportunity to get Briante Weber — the newest Dub — out on the floor at Golden 1 Center.

“I don’t think he’s going to step into the rotation, but I’d like to get him out there,” Kerr said of the 24-year-old point guard.

The Warriors inked the former Virginia Commonwealth standout to a 10-day contract, clearing space by axing popular veteran big man Anderson Varejao from the roster.

“It hurts,” Kerr told Damon Bruce on 95.7 The Game, about losing Varejao. “Anderson is one of the best people and teammates I’ve ever been around in the NBA and we’re going to miss him.”

Kerr explained that the Warriors brought in the 6-foot-2 Weber in an effort to balance a roster which had been overloaded with centers and short on backcourt options.

The reigning D-League Player of the Month for January, Weber was averaging 16.5 points and 7.4 assists and 7.5 rebounds for the Sioux Falls Skyforce — the affiliate of the Miami Heat.
