Steve Kerr doesn’t know if Bulls or Warriors are ‘they’

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, a member of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls was asked before Sunday’s game about Scottie Pippen’s recent comments asserting MJ and Company would sweep the Dubs if they played a seven-game series. The coach answered by expressing confusion about how he should answer the question “grammatically,” wondering whether the Bulls were “us” or if the Dubs were “we.” He landed on, “If the two teams played each other, there’s no question that we could beat us and they could beat them.”

A’S ON DECK

The Oakland A’s host the Chicago White Sox for Opening Day today at the Oakland Coliseum. Manager Bob Melvin admitted on Sunday that “Maybe there’s a little bit of [a] chip on some guys’ shoulders,” according to the Associated Press. If you were searching for a source of that chip, the average MLB salary this season increased 4.4 percent to $4.4 million, according to the AP. The mean salary of the 30 players with guaranteed contracts with the low-spending East Bay team? Lower than the league average at $2.9 million, a number that’s significantly higher due to Billy Butler’s lucrative deal.

EARLY SUCCESS

If there is one thing we’ve learned this college baseball season, it’s that the Cal baseball team cares not for the expectations of their fellow Pac 12 squads when they travel to Berkeley. The reigning Pac 12 champion UCLA Bruins fell below .500 after the Bears completed a weekend-series sweep at Evans Diamond on Sunday. Cal, currently the No. 12 team according to D1Baseball.com with a record of 17-6 (6-2 in conference), should continue its rise as they’ve established themselves as an early frontrunner in the Pac 12.
