St. Ignatius hires new head varsity baseball coach Brian Pollzzie

The St. Ignatius athletic department announced on Thursday that they have hired the new head coach for its varsity baseball team, and he brings championship experience.

Brian Pollzzie (pronounced Po-lit-zee) has served as the head coach for the past seven years at The Branson School in Ross, Calif., and who played baseball collegiately at San Jose State and George Washington University, taking his degree from GWU in 2000. Now, he takes over as the 21st head coach in program history.

Pollzzie led the Bulls to a pair of CIF North Coast Section titles in 2015 and 2018, and went 81-96 during his tenure with Branson. His first two years he went a combined 16-34, after the team had gone a combined 6-39 over the previous two seasons.

Before coaching the Bulls, Pollzzie coached at the Dominican Baseball Camp in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, trained and managed with the Treasure Island Pirates, instructed at the Junior Dons Baseball Academy and served as an assistant baseball coach at International High School and the Urban School in San Francisco.

Pollzzie lives in San Francisco and currently works as a videographer, creating videos for high school students to facilitate the college recruiting process. He’s previously worked with Wolfgang’s Vault, Dwell Magazine, the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Athletics. He has also provided footage for HBO, NFL Films, and Fox Sports.

Last season, the Wildcats were 9-18-1. They won 12 or more games each of the previous three seasons, but haven’t made it into the postseason proper since 2015, when the lost 3-1 to Burlingame in the first round of the CIF CCS tournament to finish an 18-12 season.
