San Francisco’s St. Anthony Foundation will honor veterans Monday by handing out personal survival kits similar to those given to soldiers in World War II.
From 10 a.m. to noon, veterans who visit the foundation at 121 Golden Gate Ave. will receive a kit that includes shampoo, soap, chocolate and tea.
“When people are talking about the homeless population of San Francisco, they don’t realize that many of the citizens they are talking about sacrificed their physical and mental well being to serve their country,” St. Anthony Social Work Center Manager Susan Shensa said in a prepared statement.
The kits are funded by donations from Bay Area businesses, including the San Francisco Hilton, Numi Tea, the Clift Hotel, the Fairmont Hotel and the Huntington Hotel.
In addition, a Social Work Center member will be on hand to help direct veterans to services they may need.
