Marco Scutaro was not considered a major addition when he was acquired from the Colorado Rockies by Giants general manager Brian Sabean just before the July 31 trading deadline.

However, Scutaro has been a significant asset for the Giants, and he came up big again on Monday. He had three hits and was the hero with a two-out single to left, scoring Brandon Crawford with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-8.

The Giants blew a 4-0 lead, but scored a run in the ninth to tie it and managed to complete the comeback with Scutaro’s hit in the 10th.

“It’s probably one of the best, if not the best, wins of the year,” Giants catcher Buster Posey said. “Especially just bouncing out to an early lead, the D’backs coming back and taking the lead. I felt we were a little flat there in the middle of the game.”

Brett Pill’s sacrifice bunt moved Crawford to second base after he beat out an infield single. Angel Pagan grounded out to first, moving Crawford to third base. And Scutaro singled through a drawn-in infield against reliever Bryan Shaw to produce the game-winning hit.

“It’s always exciting to get a walk-off,” Scutaro said. “The important thing, it was a great team effort. We never give up, we just kept fighting.”

Since he arrived in San Francisco, Scutaro is batting .322 with nine doubles and 22 RBIs.

With the Giants trailing 8-7 in the last of the ninth against Arizona closer J.J. Putz, Scutaro doubled high off the left-field wall. He advanced to third, then scored on a double down the third base line by Posey to tie the game.
Arizona has lost three straight games, all by one run.
