The Giants survived a rough start Monday and used an eighth-inning rally to beat the Colorado Rockies 3-2 at AT&T Park.
Buster Posey broke a 1-1 tie with a single that scored Gregor Blanco from third, and Brett Pill followed up with an RBI single of his own, scoring Joaquin Arias from second.
Ryan Vogelsong struggled through the first three innings, walking five Rockies in that span, but kept them off the scoreboard until catcher Wilin Rosario led off the fourth with a home run to give the Rockies the early 1-0 lead. Vogelsong rebounded after that, retiring the last 12 batters he faced, finishing seven innings and lowering his ERA to 2.66 for the season.
Blanco collected two infield hits and hit his first home run of the season in the sixth inning that tied the game at 1-1.
The Rockies threatened to break that tie in the eighth when Dexter Fowler worked a leadoff walk against Javier Lopez after fouling off a pitch that lined into the Rockies dugout, striking shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in the leg. Tulowitzki was visibly limping in the on-deck circle, but managed an infield single before being removed for a pinch-runner.
Lopez left the game with Fowler on third and pinch-runner Chris Nelson on second and two out, and Sergio Romo came in and struck out Michael Cuddyer to earn the win.
Santiago Casilla survived a scare in the ninth inning when a run scored on an error by Arias at third, but Arias redeemed himself by charging a slow ground ball hit by Nelson and making the throw to first to end the game with the bases loaded.
