While St. Patrick’s Day in San Francisco is always an adventure, one more activity has been added to the festivities this year: a soccer doubleheader at AT&T Park.
The Earthquakes will take on the Houston Dynamo in a regular-season MLS match at 2 p.m., which will be followed by an international contest between Mexico and Senegal, one of the teams’ final tuneups before Olympic qualifying. The March 17 doubleheader was announced Thursday.
The Earthquakes-Dynamo contest was originally scheduled to be held March 18 and will feature Houston star Brad Davis, an MVP finalist, and San Jose’s Chris Wondolowski, who is the team’s leading scorer the past two seasons.
AT&T Park has hosted the Mexican senior team in the past and international club soccer recently. The March 17 game will mark the return of Mexico’s under-23 squad to the Bay Area. A memorable soldout crowd of more than 45,000 fans attended a 2008 game at the O.co Coliseum between Mexico and Iceland.
Mexico will use this match as part of its preparation for the upcoming Olympic qualifiers, which begin March 23 against Trinidad and Tobago.
Senegal is still waiting to learn its opponent in its Olympic qualifying, as the African nation looks to secure its spot in the Summer Games.
Tickets go on sale to the public on Monday at 10 a.m. on www.tickets.com, at the AT&T Park box office or by calling (800) 225-2277.
