In an upset, the New Orleans Hornets received the right to make the first overall pick in the June 28 NBA draft when they won Wednesday’s draft lottery.

While the Warriors weren’t quite as lucky, they will get to keep the pick after they ended up holding firm at the No. 7 selection in the draft. Had the Warriors dropped to No. 8 or lower, it would have been sent to the Utah Jazz because of a previous deal with the New Jersey Nets in which the Warriors dealt a pick that the Nets later sent to the Jazz as part of the Deron Williams trade in February 2011.

The Hornets had the fourth-best chance to get the top pick. It will be the second time the organization will have the No. 1 overall pick.

The second pick will be made by the Charlotte Bobcats, the third pick by the Washington Wizards.

The Cleveland Cavaliers pick fourth, despite having the third-best chance to get the top pick. The Sacramento Kings pick fifth. The Brooklyn Nets’ sixth pick will go to Portland as part of the Gerald Wallace trade.
