Lee Ball double-checked his book and then carefully went through it a third time.
But finally Ball looked up, smiled and said "Well, I guess she did it."
She is Cobras ace Luisa Sausedo and the senior right-hander dominated all facets of ISA’s 5-2 win over the Bulldogs. Sausedo struck out 10 and allowed just one ball to leave the infield in the no-hitter — a fly ball to center field for the final out. She also went 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.
"I’m glad you told me — I had no idea," Sausedo said when informed about her no-hitter. "I really wasn’t thinking about it at all. I just wanted to do the best I could for the team."
Sausedo overcame five walks, a hit batsman and five errors to defeat a Wallenberg team making its first appearance in the section playoffs. She allowed an unearned run in the top of the first but ISA (11-6) rallied for three runs in the bottom half to take a lead it would never relinquish. Rebecca Lopez, Sausedo, Nancy Alvarado and Danica Tuio all had RBI hits for the aggressive Cobras, who stole 11 bases in the win.
"Luisa had it going, we all could see that," said Alvarado, the ISA catcher. "And we just had to stay patient with the bats to get in a few runs for her."
