Compton sparks Galileo to win over Wallenberg

Monica Compton scored 17 points as Galileo beat Wallenberg 60-38 in an Academic Athletic Association girls’ basketball game Friday at Kezar Pavilion.

Galileo’s defense picked apart Wallenberg (4-18, 3-10 AAA) early on, as the Lions (16-13, 7-6) led 17-13 after the first quarter. Six steals and strong rebounding in the second quarter, coupled with seven points from Compton, stretched the lead to 33-18 at the half.

"Since it’s coming towards the end of the season, we needed to come together and work hard," Galileo’s Danielle Fong said.

"We lost a game we could have won," teammate Zakiyya Williams said of Galileo’s 52-35 loss Tuesady to Burton. "We realized we needed to step it up."

Shawnte Taylor led Wallenberg with 13 points and had a game-high 14 rebounds.
