After the Stanford and Cal women’s basketball teams finished 1-2 in the Pac-12 standings during the regular season, it seems only fitting they appear destined to meet in the conference tournament title game.
The each took a step toward that on Thursday.
The No. 2 Cardinal got 18 points and seven rebounds from Nneka Ogwumike and 16 points and 11 rebounds from sister Chiney Ogwumike to dispatch of Washington 76-57 in the quarterfinals in Los Angeles.
Stanford (29-1), which was undefeated in the Pac-12 regular season, advances to meet Arizona State, a 68-53 victor against Arizona, today at noon in a semifinal matchup.
Meanwhile, the Golden Bears held off Colorado 68-59 to advance to the semifinals.
Cal (23-8) will square off against Washington State, which beat USC 69-55, today in the 2:30 p.m. semifinal.
Layshia Clarendon led four Cal players in double figures with 12 points.
Lindsay Sherbert and Talia Caldwell each added 11 points for the Golden Bears.
