CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. — University of Virginia athletics officials say sophomore center Assane Sene has been suspended from the team's first three games for conduct detrimental to the team.

The school did not say Saturday what Sene did to merit the suspension.

Sene will miss Virginia's season-opener again Longwood on Nov. 13, and games at South Florida and with Rider. He also will not play in the Cavaliers' closed scrimmage with St. John's on Sunday.

The 7-foot Senegal native started in 16 of the 22 games he played in last season. He averaged 2.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Sene also led the team with 35 blocked shots and ranked fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Coach Tony Bennett says he hopes Sene learns from the suspension.
