SHANGHAI — Phil Mickelson is clinging to a one-shot lead at the turn of the HSBC Champions, but not over Tiger Woods.
In a shocking meltdown Sunday, Woods fell as many as six shots behind his chief rival and did not make a birdie until the ninth hole, giving him a 39 on the front nine of Sheshan International.
Mickelson had a one-shot lead over Ernie Els, who started the final round seven shots out of the lead, and Ryan Moore. Nick Watney was another shot behind.
Woods missed a 4-foot birdie putt on the second hole, then hit into the water on the fourth. He was furious with a camera that went off in his swing on the seventh, leading to a bogey.
