NEWARK, DEL. — Jerry Butler scored on a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter and Delaware made a defensive stop in the final minute to defeat Hofstra 28-24 on Saturday.

Butler, who finished with 83 yards and two TDs on 18 carries, capped off a nine play, 93-yard game-winning drive for the Blue Hens (6-3, 4-3 Colonial Athletic Association). The drive was sparked by a 72-yard pass from Pat Devlin to Phillip Thaxton. Devlin finished with 185 yards on 14-of-22 passing.

With 49 seconds remaining in the game, Delaware's Benard Makumbi tackled Hofstra's Cory Christopher on the Delaware 20-yard line to seal the game as the Pride attempted to convert a fourth-and-one.

The Blue Hens went up 21-7 when Mark Duncan caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Devlin with 31.9 seconds left before halftime.

Christopher was 16-of-24 for 157 yards for the Pride (4-5, 2-4).
