The A’s picked up contract options for manager Bob Geren and second baseman MarkEllis, locking up Geren through 2009 and Ellis for the 2008 season. Geren didn’t have a successful campaign in his first year as manager. But in his defense, the A’s were plagued with injuries all season. Ellis has hit a career-high 19 homers this season.
Less than a week after parting ways with Sarunas Jasikevicius, the Warriors signed veteran guard Troy Hudson to help add depth at the point guard position. “He’s had a productive NBA career and, most importantly, will provide us with additional depth in the backcourt,” executive vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin said. “He has the ability to run a team, and some of his other strengths — such as 3-point shooting — will fit in well with our style of play.” Entering his 11th season, Hudson has played for Utah, the Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando and Minnesota.
