Spend the holidays with Smuin Contemporary Ballet

Smuin, the Bay Area-based contemporary ballet troupe celebrating its 23rd season of “The Christmas Ballet,” kindly allowed the San Francisco Examiner to take a peek behind the scenes of this year’s edition of the popular show.

Onstage at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in The City, the performance is divided into two parts: “Classical” Act 1, with a new piece by choreographer-in-residence Amy Seiwert, followed by “Cool” Act 2, which includes new works created by Smuin dancers Erica Felsch and Rex Wheeler, along with classic favorites: “Santa Baby,” with a super-long feather boa, and tap-dancing Christmas trees.

Performances run daily through Sunday; for tickets, visit www.smuinballet.org
