LOS ANGELES — A San Francisco man was killed, three were injured and a fifth person was missing Sunday when their dingy and a boat collided off the coast of Santa Catalina Island.
The man killed was reported to be 26-year-old Michael Harris of San Francisco. Harris is the son of former 49ers CEO Peter Harris, family members said Sunday.
Rescue crews searched for the missing boater after the collision occurred early Sunday morning.
The injured were airlifted by helicopter to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, the Coast Guard said. The collision occurred shortly after midnight about a quarter mile from Casino Point.
Peter Harris posted about his son’s death on Facebook on Sunday.
“[Michael] was killed early this morning in a wasteful and tragic event while a passenger in a boat that was hit near Catalina,” he wrote.
