Small Business Saturday expected to be busiest yet

The yearly celebration to honor local, small businesses is coming up this week. Small Business Saturday is taking place on Nov. 26 this year, and according to a survey conducted by National Federation of Independent Businesses, this year looks to be the most popular yet.

National survey results showed that 58 percent of people were aware of Small Business Saturday, up from 55 percent last year. 62 percent of the consumers polled said they planned to shop and eat locally Nov. 26th as they value the contributions small businesses make to their communities.

San Francisco has a unique line-up for the day, starting with a Daybreak dance party from 8-11 a.m. A pile of snow is being brought in to the West Portal neighborhood to celebrate the occasion and to bring out shoppers, with activities running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our local government is also honoring the annual event, by changing the City Hall’s lights to blue in support of Small Business Saturday on Nov. 25 and 26.
