Sudha Varadarajan, the founder and head of San Francisco-based Skava, a mobile platform originally launched before smartphones existed, is working with her team to create in-store digital applications for tablets and kiosks, which are transforming the shopping experience. Skava’s clients include six of the nation’s top 30 retailers, such as Gap, Sears and Staples. Earlier this year, Skava launched t.staples.com, the first retail website fully optimized for tablets. What are your goals with Skava? Our primary goal is to go into becoming one of the best mobile/tablet development companies.
What motivated you to launch Skava? My father is a typical slumdog millionaire. He grew up in the slums and became a big entrepreneur. I’ve always been inspired by him. I worked my way up like he did. It was just a matter of time. We started with a lot of dreams, but we gave it a go. We wanted to focus on mobile and tablet retail. This is where the future lies.
What’s next for Skava? We want to revolutionize shopping. Right now, we power many retail mobile and tablet applications. The next step is to just continue this. We always want to be pioneering, focus on mobile and tablet sites, be extremely innovative and really focus on small and large retail.
