A pair of shootings near the Oakdale and Alice Griffith housing projects injured two men in the span of five hours early Wednesday morning and late Tuesday night, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
A 24-year-old man was shot when two men approached him near Nichols and Cameron ways at around 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday, according to police. Hours earlier, a 20-year-old man heard shots ring out and realized he was hit on Oakdale Avenue between Ingalls and Griffith streets at 11:10 p.m.
“Although in close proximity, we’d like to think that these are isolated incidents,” said Bayview Police Station Capt. Steven Ford. The shootings happened less than a mile apart.
Both men were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive. Ford described their gunshot wounds as “superficial.”
Ford said just four people have been shot and killed in the Bayview since he became captain of the station eight months ago, which he called a “dramatic decrease in shooting homicides” compared to previous years.
“Unfortunately there are incidents where shots are fired,” Ford said. “And that’s not germane to the Bayview.”
Police have yet to make an arrest in either shooting. The SFPD said the suspects in both incidents are “unknown.”
