San Francisco State University’s men’s basketball team saw its best season in decades end in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament.

After finishing second in the CCAA and losing the conference tournament championship, the Gators weren’t able to advance past No. 13 California Baptist, who won 71-50.

A 9-2 run to begin the second-half was enough to bury SFSU, which was led by Warren Jackson with 12 points.

The loss made for the Gators’ first consecutive losses in a season that saw the program rise to as high as No. 13, a team record. It also capped a 25-win season, which is the best finish for the program since the 1939-40 campaign.

On Monday, Jackson was named to the CCAA All-West Region Second Team. Jackson averaged a second-best-in-conference 17.2 points per game. He was also efficient, shooting 50 percent from the field, 45.4 percent from beyond the 3-point line, and 85.2 percent on free throws.

Jackson, a junior from Detroit, will be one of few returners for SFSU next season as the team is scheduled to graduate several regular players.
