SFPD holds community meeting surrounding use of Tasers

Dozens of community members gathered at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium Tuesday, September 13 to attend a community meeting regarding the use of Tasers within the San Francisco Police Department. Attendees were split into four separate table discussion groups, each hosted by a moderator from the Human Rights Campaign, to share thoughts and feelings surrounding the controversial policy to implement officers with “conducted energy devices”. Many opposed to the Taser policy voiced their concerns during the second half of the meeting, held in a town hall style fashion more commonly used in the past as a format by the SFPD. The next community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19 at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Cafe at City College of San Francisco’s Ocean Campus. Photos by Jessica Christian/S.F. Examiner.
