The inaugural California State University Innovation Series will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at San Francisco State University’s downtown campus, according to the university. The campus is located at 835 Market St.

The series will aim at expanding the university system’s potential to create new business, according to the university.

Leaders will discuss the state of the startup industry, including financing and venture capital, staffing and the problems startups are trying to solve, university officials said.
Another aim of the event is to highlight the role the CSU system plays in education, public service and applied research, according to the university.

The Governor’s Office of Business Development, or GO-Biz, is partnering with the university to put on the event. University officials said the event is the first time GO-Biz will be partnering with a CSU campus.

Following the speeches, students from the College of Business, College of Science and Engineering and the Design and Industry Department will present award-winning projects.
