SF Politico to lose law license after pleading guilty to child pornography charges

A former San Francisco political consultant has been recommended by the State Bar of California for disbarment at the end of this month after he pleaded guilty to felony child pornography charges in 2016.

The State Bar Court, which regulates the licensing of lawyers in California, filed for disbarment of Enrique Pearce in October and will permanently revoke him from practicing law, pending approval from the Supreme Court, on March 31.

Pearce pleaded guilty to felony charges of possession and distribution of child pornography and possession of stolen property, namely a city-owned parking meter, in December 2016.

The City politico, who consulted for Ed Lee’s mayoral reelection and for Supervisor Jane Kim’s District 6 supervisorial run, was sentenced in April 2017 to a six-month stint in county jail and five years of probation after Judge Rene Navarro rejected the prosecution’s request for a lengthier sentence in federal prison.

Nearly a year later, Pearce was suspended from practicing law on the basis of his felony charges.

Pearce did not respond to the State Bar’s request for disbarment or take steps to mitigate it, according to court documents. Because the felonies involving the exploitation of children and “flagrant disrespect for the law and for societal norms,” disbarment is unavoidable and mandatory, according to the State Bar.
