SF Mayor, public safety officials join students in earthquake drill

Mayor London Breed, San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott, Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White and Department of Emergency Services staff joined Dr. Vincent Matthews, Superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District, at Bryant Elementary School to practice how to “Drop, Cover and Hold On” as they took part in the Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018.

The Shakeout, which began in Southern California in 2008, saw more than 10 million participants worldwide last year. The drill emphasizes practice and preparation: knowing what to do before, during and after an earthquake and preparing homes, workplaces and schools for emergencies.
